The purpose-built Finger-Ink iPad app can be put into something we call "kiosk mode".

This allows your patients to check themselves in and, for Cliniko users, fill out any necessary Forms on arrival. It also allows people who aren't there to check-in to perform other actions, such as:

  • Book a future appointment

  • Find out more about your clinic & services

  • Leave a message

It's a fully self-service system β€” giving you and your admin staff more time for what matters. Here's what it looks like:

☝️ An iPad running kiosk mode is intended to live in a secure stand or case like this one from Bosstab β€” so that you can be confident no one walks away with it while you're not there.

Check-in setup

πŸ‘ Available for all integrations.

A number of items can be adjusted to tweak your check-in flow:

  • Ask for date of birth or mobile number instead

  • Request that the patient verify their identity with their initials, or not

  • Customise the greeting and thanks language to fit with your style

Since version 7.0.0 of the app, this is all configured remotely inside the Portal. This allows changes to be made from one central location while the iPads can be anywhere else.

Here's a quick look at the check-in configuration options:

Forms during check-in

☝️ Available only for Cliniko.

There's also a section to configure your form filling needs. You can decide which forms need to be filled out for which appointments, and how often.

Also, if the wrong appointment was mistakenly chosen, the default behaviour is to hide the name during form filling, then do a "fuzzy" double-check to make sure it's what was expected. If it's not, it halts form filling. This can, however, be turned off.

Marked as arrived

πŸ‘ Available for all integrations.

When a patient checks in through the Finger-Ink app, the patient is marked as arrived on the appointment.

Here's an example in Cliniko:

For Cliniko clinics β€”Β if there are Forms that need to be filled as part of the Check-in, then we'll only mark the patient as arrived on the appointment after the first Form has been filled.

Online booking via iPad

πŸ‘ Available for all integrations.

Each iPad in kiosk mode can optionally show an actions button.

We default this to the title "I'm not here to check in". This button can be used on the iPad itself, or the QR code scanned using another device (such as the patient's phone) to show a list of actions you deem appropriate.

These actions can be configured in the Portal, along with the check-in flow above:

There are two main options with this button:

  1. Using a Finger-Ink hosted list of actions

  2. Using a custom URL

The custom URL is exactly how you'd imagine β€”Β the button and QR code go to a custom URL.

But the Finger-Ink hosted list of actions creates a great-looking hosted page for you. This page is then available within the iPad, or via a QR code scan. If you're interested in what this page looks like, check out our test page here.

And if you're wondering what it looks like on the iPad, here's it is in action, being used to book an appointment:

Check in? What about check out?

πŸ‘ Available for all integrations.

New in version 7.0.0, we also allow you to completely turn off the check-in functionality! Combine this with a custom button title and custom URL, and you've got yourself a kiosk that lets your patients leave feedback when they're done:
